About Neatsmith & History

For over 20 years, Neatsmith has been making bespoke fitted furniture for homes across London and the South East — wardrobesdressing roomsstudies and media walls. Every piece is designed in our showrooms, manufactured in our Watford factory and installed in your home.

→ Celebrating 20 years

Our flagship showroom is on the Kings Road in Chelsea, London. We have six more across the South East — in HampsteadHatch EndTunbridge WellsGuildfordBrentwood and Hampton Hill — and in 2025 we opened our first international showroom in Dubai. Everything is made at our main production facility in Watford.

In 2005. We celebrated our 20th year in 2025, and now we’re looking forward to the next 20.

→ Our 20-year story

Neatsmith is owned and run by Philipp and Mathew Nagel. They started the business with their father, Andrew, in 2005.

Big enough to make everything ourselves, small enough to care about every job. We’re a team of around 80, and every one of us is a full-time employee — from the salespeople to the delivery drivers to the fitters who install your furniture. We never subcontract, because it’s the only way to know that everyone who touches your project really cares.

Every piece is genuinely bespoke and made in our own factory to the exact dimensions of your room — not chosen from a catalogue of standard sizes. You design it with us; we make it and fit it.

Products & Materials

Hingedsliding and walk-in wardrobes, plus full dressing rooms — each built to your room’s exact dimensions.

→ Hinged or sliding doors?

Dressing roomsstudies and home officesmedia and TV walls, boot rooms and utility rooms — anything built-in. If it’s storage that should look like it was made for the room, it’s us.

→ The evolution of luxury storage

A wide range — lacquered colours, hand-painted doors, glass and a selection of mirrors — all on display in our showrooms so you can see and feel them in person. Our Belgravia door even takes a fabric insert, letting you carry a colour or pattern right through the room. Some interior designers go further still, setting their own wallpaper into the door panels to make a project entirely their own.

→ Choosing the right finish

Reflex doors are faced in a tinted, mirrored glass set in a slim aluminium frame — Bronze Reflex is our most-loved, with silver and smoked grey also available. Unlit, they read as a mirror, bouncing light around the room and making it feel larger and brighter. Light them from inside and the glass turns transparent, casting a warm glow that turns your storage into a design statement.

→ Reflex glass in our 2025 trends

Frameless doors have the glass bonded straight onto a 22mm base that matches your wardrobe’s interior, with no visible frame — a clean, seamless look. Choose coloured glass in a gloss or satin finish, any of our mirrors (including our antique tones), or one of our exclusive Decorative Glass designs.

→ Wardrobe finishes

It’s patterned glass, in a range of designs, that adds texture and character to a door front. Our Decorative Glass is exclusive to Neatsmith — a look you won’t find anywhere else.

Silver, bronze and grey mirror — as a full mirror door, or as a panel set within a framed door. We also offer antique mirror in a bronze or grey tone, for a softer, characterful finish. A tinted mirror back panel is a small touch that adds real depth and a sense of space.

→ Luxury finishes

Classic framed Shaker doors in one-, two- or four-panel layouts — clean lines and timeless detail, at home in a traditional bedroom or a more pared-back, modern one. They can be lacquered or hand-painted in any of our 14 standard finishes, or colour-matched to anything you like. You can also set mirror, glass or even your own wallpaper into the panels, for a finish that’s unique to your room.

→ The Shaker trend

Yes — any colour at all. Bring us a paint reference, a fabric, or simply something you love, and we’ll match your furniture to it.

We’ve matched a dressing room to the single blue stripe running through a client’s pillowcase, and a media unit to the exact red of a famous make-up brand. If you can show it to us, we can usually make it yours.

→ Custom colour options

Quality materials, built to last. Our carcasses are a solid 22mm and the shelves a sturdy 38mm — strong enough to hold a full wardrobe with ease and stay beautifully square for years. Each unit is a complete carcass with its own back panel, made to last as long as you’re in your home.

→ Quality and durability

Blum — the Austrian hardware brand many people already know and trust. Every drawer and door runs on Blum hinges, runners and soft-close mechanisms, so it glides open and closes itself with a gentle touch. It’s the reason we can guarantee our hinges and runners for life.

→ Organising your wardrobe

Yes — every door style, glass and finish is on display in our showrooms, so you can see and handle the real thing before you decide anything.

→ Designing your space

Yes — all of them, in our own Watford factory. From the carcasses to the doors to the paint finish on our own in-house paint line, every part is made under one roof. It’s how we keep the quality in our hands from start to finish.

→ How we craft your wardrobe

The Process — Design, Survey & Installation

It’s simple: you visit a showroom and design it with us, we quote, you pay a deposit, we survey your room, then we make it and fit it. Design, manufacture and installation are all handled by us.

→ The process of crafting your wardrobe

Pop into a showroom and a designer will put your quote together with you. Every design is bespoke — drawn around your room, your layout and the finishes you choose — so it’s created in person, not generated online. The quote you get is genuinely yours, designed for you and your space.

→ The design and quote stage

Usually around eight weeks, though it depends on the finishes you choose — some take a little longer, and your designer will confirm the timing for your order. The clock starts from your survey rather than your deposit, because we take your exact final measurements before anything goes into production.

→ From survey to installation

After your deposit, our surveyor visits your home to take precise final measurements. It’s what lets us build everything to fit your room exactly.

→ Our site survey

Not really — just let us in. As long as the walls, ceiling and floor are in place, we’ll take it from there. Our surveyor handles all the measuring, so there’s no need to clear the room or finish decorating first.

→ What happens at survey

Once you’ve ordered, the design is set — but you won’t need to change a thing. We get every detail right before you commit, through a thorough design process where your colours, layout, finishes and accessories are all decided with your designer. By the time you order it’s fully specified, ready to go straight into production and be made exactly to your plan.

→ The design stage

A showroom designer shapes it with you, then turns your ideas into a full-colour 3D rendering so you can see your wardrobe in your room before it’s made.

→ Working with your designer

Our own fitters — full-time members of our team, not subcontractors — matched to the job and your location. We don’t just deliver it; we fit it properly.

→ Our in-house fitters

It depends on the project — every job is bespoke, so the time on site varies with size and complexity. You won’t be left guessing, though — our installs team will be in touch about four weeks before your fitting with a clear schedule, so you’ll know exactly what to expect.

→ Installation and finishing touches

Spotless. We protect your room before we start — covering floors and furniture — and when we’re finished we take everything away, right down to the packaging and offcuts. The only change you should notice is a beautiful new wardrobe.

→ Installation and finishing touches

We see every job through to perfect. If anything needs finishing or fine-tuning once we’ve fitted it, we’ll come straight back and take care of it — we’re not done until everything is exactly as it should be and you’re delighted.

→ Aftercare and long-term satisfaction

We’re based in London and the South East, where most of our work is — but we travel further afield for larger projects, and we look after interior designers’ clients right across the UK.

Export is a big part of what we do, too. London is a global city, and many of our clients have homes elsewhere and want Neatsmith with them. We prepare everything in our own Watford factory and supply worldwide — we’ve shipped to homes across Europe, America and the Middle East — guiding your local installation by video call or phone.

→ We supply anywhere in the world

Pricing, Payment, Guarantee & Trade

Every wardrobe is bespoke, so the price varies job by job with the size, finishes and complexity you choose. As a guide, each of our designs carries a per-linear-metre price — browse our product pages to get a feel for where your project might sit. When you’re ready, your designer gives you a fixed quote with no surprises.

→ Why a fitted wardrobe is worth investing in

Your order starts with a 30% deposit, and the balance is due when your installation is booked — usually three to four weeks before fitting.

→ The order process

Yes — every Neatsmith wardrobe is guaranteed, because it’s made to measure and built to last. The headline: our drawer runners and hinges are guaranteed for life.

  • Drawer runners and hinges — life
  • Sliding door systems — 15 years
  • LED strips, push latches and soft-close on sliding wardrobes — 18 months
  • All other accessories — 12 months

It covers normal, intended use and is personal to you (it doesn’t pass to a new owner). It doesn’t cover wear and tear, damage from moisture, fire or extreme heat, fading from prolonged direct sunlight, or furniture altered by anyone other than a Neatsmith fitter.

Yes — they’ve been a core part of our business for years, and we still work with some interior designers more than a decade on. They come to us because we take the weight off, managing as much or as little of the project as suits them. Some hand their client to us and let us run the whole thing; others stay involved start to finish.

Designers love visiting in person, too — to see the full range for themselves and find exactly the right pieces for the project in hand. Just pop into your local showroom and we’ll show you how it works.

→ Book an appointment

The easiest first step is to download our brochure for a feel of what we make. But our furniture is best appreciated in person — the finishes, the glass, the way it all comes together — so when you’re ready, book an appointment at your local showroom and a designer will take it from there.
