Neatsmith, a name now synonymous with luxury bespoke wardrobes and fitted furniture in London, began as a modest family venture fuelled by a passion for craftsmanship and personalised service. Founded in 2005 by Andrew Nagel and his two sons, Philipp and Mathew, the company sprang from a vision to craft high-quality, custom-designed storage solutions, such as their bespoke fitted bedroom furniture, that stood out in both form and function. The Nagel family’s roots in retail and hospitality shaped their approach, infusing a deep commitment to customer care into everything they created - a philosophy that would propel Neatsmith from a small workshop to a celebrated name across London and beyond.

The story started in a single showroom above their North London workshop, where Neatsmith focused on designing and creating luxury wardrobes - hinged, sliding, and walk-in designs - tailored to each client’s needs. Philipp and Mathew brought youthful energy and innovative ideas to the young brand, drawing on their hospitality background to prioritise both the product and the customer experience. In those early days, every piece was handmade in-house, a tradition that became a cornerstone of Neatsmith’s identity.

The UK furniture market in 2005 was dominated by mass-produced built-in wardrobe options, but Neatsmith found its niche by offering bespoke luxury fitted wardrobe solutions for homes of all styles, from sleek modern flats to charming period properties with awkward layouts. Their bespoke fitted bedroom furniture, such as their luxury fitted wardrobes, offered an innovative new way to add storage space to a home effortlessly; giving people the chance to create their dream bedrooms.

The company’s growth gained momentum as its reputation for quality spread. In February 2010, Neatsmith opened its first additional showroom in Teddington, a milestone that allowed clients to experience the craftsmanship of their luxury wardrobes up close. This expansion marked the beginning of a deliberate push to bring their bespoke luxury fitted wardrobe designs to more communities. By February 2013, a second showroom opened in Hampstead, catering to a clientele eager for personalised storage, such as bespoke fitted bedroom furniture, in one of London’s most beautiful neighbourhoods. The following year, in 2014, Hatch End welcomed another showroom, further solidifying Neatsmith’s presence and giving clients across North London easier access to their tailored offerings.

These showrooms weren’t just retail spaces—they were hubs of creativity, staffed by designers who collaborated with customers to craft everything from minimalist luxury wardrobes to elaborate dressing rooms. The family’s hands-on approach shone through, with every piece still produced in their North London factory by skilled cabinetmakers. This commitment to in-house manufacturing set Neatsmith apart, allowing unmatched customisation, whether it was integrating wireless charging points into home offices or adding sophisticated lighting to luxury fitted wardrobe interiors.

The late 2010s marked a period of rapid expansion. In June 2017, Neatsmith opened a showroom in Brentwood, tapping into the growing demand for luxury furniture in Essex. Just over a year later, in October 2018, they ventured into the heart of London with a Chelsea location, a bold move that positioned them among the city’s elite design scene. Then they relocated their Teddington showroom to a much larger site in Hampton Hill in 2020. Each new showroom reflected Neatsmith’s ability to blend traditional woodworking with contemporary flair, appealing to a diverse and discerning clientele who were seeking bespoke bedroom furniture. The family’s hospitality roots ensured the experience remained personal, with consultations, 3D renders, and installations all handled by their own team—no step was outsourced.

As Neatsmith matured, their offerings expanded beyond just fitted luxury wardrobes to include bespoke home offices, living room units, media walls, and even playful storage for children’s rooms. This evolution mirrored shifting client needs and showcased the company’s adaptability. By the 2020s, sustainability also became a focus, with wooden panels sourced responsibly and factory offcuts repurposed to heat their workshop—a nod to quality paired with environmental care.

The most recent chapter unfolded in December 2023, when Neatsmith opened its sixth showroom in Guildford, extending its reach into Surrey. This addition brought their total to six beautifully appointed spaces—Hampton Hill, Hampstead, Hatch End, Brentwood, Chelsea, and now Guildford—each a testament to nearly two decades of growth. Staffed by over 80 full time employees, from designers to fitters, Neatsmith has transformed from its workshop origins into a leader in bespoke furniture, celebrated for its design, craftsmanship, and service.

Today, Neatsmith stands as a family-driven success story. Philipp and Mathew work hand in hand to make sure every luxury wardrobe, office, or media wall carries the Neatsmith name with pride, a legacy built on the hands of a family who turned a passion for detail into a flourishing enterprise. From that first North London workshop to the latest Guildford showroom, Neatsmith’s journey reflects a blend of tradition, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to its clients.
